The Challenge

Develop an End-of-Line Test System for two physically different clock modules.  The modules arrive at the test station in any sequence and must be tested based on part number.

The Solution

A low cost industrial PC coupled to off-the-shelf industrial I/O provided a system that was quick to produce and is proving reliable in use.  Machine vision indicates a pass-fail result from the clock module's display.  A custom fixture adjusts to the clock module under test based on a switch setting that is verified by a bar code scan.

Hardware

A passive back plane Kontron industrial PC with Measurement Systems I/O cards driving Grayhill solid state relay racks and Analog Devices analog I/O modules add up to a reliable system that the customer can easily understand and maintain.  Machine vision is provided by a Keyence vision system.

Software

The straight forward test sequencer is written in C and runs under embedded DOS.  This combination is proving to provide high reliability in a challenging non-US environment. Similar machines developed for more complex products are based on Windows 2000, Visual Basic and PC based machine vision.
